In Education
: Support To Physically Challenged |
Close your eyes for few moments and
in the darkness realize how important it is to be able
to see. Now imagine blinds were to stay closed, condemning
you to a dark prison forever. Imagine a day with malfunctioning
of any of your organs like hand, leg or even fingers.
The feeling is of a terrible nightmare.
In a reality, over 40 million people
in the world are blind, and over 120 million people have
significant low vision conditions that cannot be corrected,
cured or treated by conventional refraction, medicine
or surgery. This number is expected to double by the year
2020. Over 90% of these visually impaired people live
in developing countries like India and the case is almost
the same for physically handicapped people.
It may not be possible for us to reach
every one of them, but certainly we can give our support
to few and contribute in enriching their lives.

Poona Blindmen Association : |
|
The school provides blind students vocational education
so as to make them financially independent. The
students are given training in making utility items
such as paper bags, weaving, making cloth dusters
and weaving cane furniture.
KPCL is a part
one such initiative. The students of Blind School
learn to make paper bags using waste newspaper provided
by KPCL. These bags are purchased by many organizations,
thus giving the blind a source of income. KPCL has
also provided comprehensive health check-up to the
students and staff of this institute. |

Apang Kalyankari Sanstha, Wanowri : |
|
This institute works for children who are handicapped
at a very young age. These children are given conventional
education along with vocational guidance. They are
also taught crafts like carpentry, weaving and decorative
articles which can make them financially independent.
As is KPCL’s policy of giving
as per the need, we have donated bed sheets, sweaters,
uniforms, school bags, clothes & sky bags to
all the students of Apang Sanstha. Our employees
also buy handicrafts and articles like diyas, akash
kandil, etc during Diwali from a stall arranged
in the company.
The students of Apang Sanstha have also undergone
eye check-up and free spectacles have been given
to needy students.
